HURON TWP. ? The township will be receiving new computers after the Board of Trustees approved a contract last Wednesday with I.T. Right for a technology upgrade.
The upgrade was necessary because the county had changed the software it used and the township had to change to stay compatible. The current computers in the Township Hall weren?t capable of handling the new software, hence the complete overhaul.
The contract will cost the township $40,045 with I.T. Right?s bid being the lowest of the three submitted.
This price includes a service contract with the technology upgrades.
?(The new system) works on a different format than what we have been accustomed to,? township Supervisor Elke Doom said. ?It actually expands and holds infinite amounts of data, where it couldn?t before. ? We all know when our computers get very slow because they have too much data on them. What we are finding is that the computers we have are too old to support the Dotnet.?
Bids for the technology upgrades had been brought before the board once before. However, trustees said there weren?t enough bids submitted the first time and they decided to redo the bidding process.
While the vote was unanimous, Treasurer Linda Spangler was absent from the meeting.
